Constance Currie, President


Connie as a local historian in Sayville, NY focused her efforts in 1995 along with Ralph Williams to save the Telefunken radio site.  Although this site was ultimately lost, she continued her efforts in locating and preserving  the history of Long Island's wireless industry.  Connie has actively searched for support for our society's cause and is also the liaison responsible for the original charter and continued documentation required by the State of New York.

A charter member of our society, Connie is also past president as well as vice-president of the Sayville Historical Society and  the Long Island Forum

 

 

Van Field, Vice-President


Van has an interesting background as a Long Island historian and is a well written author of books and articles. His interest in maritime history and radio history go hand in hand.  Author of "Wrecks and Rescues on Long Island", Van also is active in the preservation of local historical sites.

An avid amateur radio operator, call sign W2OQI, Van is also an active member of  the US Coast Guard Auxiliary, Division 18 and has been appointed their division historian.  He is currently involved with the preservation of the last remaining life saving station used by the  US Life Saving Service located on Fire Island. 

 

 

Ed Taylor, Treasurer


Ed is our financial officer and is also membership chairman.  Originally joining the founders of our organization, Ed became involved with the effort to save the Telefunken Sayville, NY station.  

A licensed as an amateur radio operator for more than 50 years, call sign K2GJE, Ed continues to assist our organization.  Ed also restores Model A Ford automobiles as a hobby.

 

 

Natalie Stiefel, Corr. and Rec. Secretary


Natalie with experience as an historian of Rocky Point became interested in radio history when her father, Rosario Aurucci, set out to restore the Marconi 1902 wireless building.  Since 1994, Natalie writes a weekly column "Looking Back At Rocky Point" in their Community Journal, highlighting  Rocky Points history during 18th through the 20th century.  She has written a book, entitled  "In The Shadow of the Radio Towers"
 that was published  in 2003

 

A charter member of our society, she is also been involved in the founding of the Rocky Point Historical Society and the Italian Genealogical Group.
